Education and Learning

Today's classes are becoming more and more difficult for students of all ages. Even elementary school syllabuses are becoming increasingly complex, and the work load gets heavier each year. This trend extends to high school and college students as well. In many cases, the stress of getting an education can become overwhelming. When this happens, many students fail to live up to their potential, and they end up doing poorly in school. In institutions of higher education, many students even end up quitting or failing out simply because the stress becomes too much to handle. There are, however, a few tips that can help students of all ages reduce stress and live up to their full potential.

One of the easiest methods of reducing stress in the classroom is to always be prepared. Forgetting a book or realizing that you do not have paper or a writing utensil is a sure way to set yourself up to get stressed out for no good reason. When you leave for class in the morning, always make sure that you have all your books as well as any other required supplies such as notebooks. It is also a good idea to pack extras of things like pens, pencils, or paper just in case you lose something or run out part way through the day. Making sure that you arrive on time is another good stress buster. Showing up late puts you in the mindset of being stressed before the day even begins. In fact, if it is possible to arrive slightly early, your chances of remaining stress free are even better. If you make it class even just a few minutes early, you will have time to get yourself prepared for the class to begin.

Many students become stressed because they are unable to understand their coursework. When this happens, it is important to deal with the problem immediately. Otherwise, it will only become worse as time goes by. If there is something you do not understand during a lecture, always ask questions, even if you think your question is "stupid". Getting the answers you need will allow you to excel without becoming overly stressed. When it all seems too much to handle, just remind yourself or your child of the benefits of obtaining a good education. Often remembering what you are working towards is enough to give yourself that extra push to make it through.

English grammar software has advanced significantly over the last 10 years. Now days these programs not only check for spelling, they can analyze your writing at the phrase and sentences level giving you feedback on your phrase construction, pointing out errors and suggesting better ways to word what you are attempting to convey. This level of analysis and feedback can prove very helpful to both native and non native English speakers by producing higher quality documents and saving time in the editing process.

Pros of English Grammar Software
  • Provides quick detailed feedback regarding our writing
  • Offers a huge database of synonyms
  • Enhances our English vocabulary
  • Using this kind of software can improve our confidence in our writing
  • Most grammar software offering provide mini English lessons built into the package

Cons of English Grammar Software
  • They may miss some important errors, especially homonyms
  • They can mark a grammatically correct phrase as incorrect
  • The suggestions they make will not be correct 100% of the time so the writer must still have some confidence with the English language

Given the remaining deficiencies, English grammar software should be used as an editor rather than a writer. Even so, it can be a very powerful and useful tool in your writing arsenal.

Below I have included a run down on the most powerful grammar correctors currently available.

Whitesmoke
Probably the most powerful and popular stand alone grammar checker on the market today. It works with all text based applications (MS Word, Outlook, MSM Messenger etc.) and aims to enrich your writing through a highly advanced algorithm that contains over 6,000,000 enrichment corrections.

Editor
Editor by Serenity Software is another powerful option. It analyzes your documents at 3 levels: word, phrase and sentence. It is more suited for writers who are already very confident with their writing abilities and need a final proofreader.

StyleEase
StyleEase is aimed at academics who want to focus more on content. This software handles the formatting of citations and reference entries for them saving significant time.

Microsoft Word
Microsoft Word is an early pioneer in grammar editing software. It is the most widely used word processor world wide. While it may not be as powerful as WhiteSmoke for instance, MS Word sill does a great job for many people.

Pronouns are one of the eight parts of speech that make up the English language. In basic terms, pronouns are simply words that can take the place of nouns in a sentence. That is, pronouns can do all the same things that nouns can do. Though they are relatively simply, it is possible to get mixed up and use them incorrectly, so it is important to understand exactly what they are and how they are meant to be used. There are several different types of pronouns, but there are only three that are the most common. These three include possessive pronouns, relative pronouns, and subject pronouns.

Subject pronouns are probably the easiest to understand. They are also the most commonly used. As the name suggests, subject pronouns are used as the subject of a sentence or clause. In other words, these pronouns let the reader or listener know who you are talking about. Subject pronouns include the words I, you, he, she, it, they, and we. Following are a few examples of subject pronouns used in sentences:

I am going to go to the store.

She likes to read.

We were supposed to go out tonight.

Possessive pronouns are also very common and relatively simple. These pronouns are used to show ownership or possession. Some of the most commonly used possessive pronouns include hers, his, mine, yours, and theirs, but there are also several others. Possessive pronouns can be used in two different ways. They can stand on their own, or they can stand before a noun. They are only true pronouns, however, when they are used on their own. When a possessive pronoun is used before a noun, they are actually serving as an adjective that modifies the noun. The following are examples of a possessive pronoun used alone:

That is mine.

The book is hers.

Here are examples of possessive pronouns used as adjectives.

That is my book.

This is her car.

The last common type of pronoun is the relative pronoun. These are a bit more advanced and more difficult to properly understand. Relative pronouns are used to introduce relative clauses. Relatively clauses are a type of dependent clause. The words that can serve as relative pronouns are which, whom, who, that, whomever, whichever, whose, and whoever. The following is an example of how a relative pronoun is used in a sentence:

She likes the dog who has black spots. (The word "who" is the relative pronoun. It introduces the relative clause "who has white spots" and replaces the noun "dog".)

In recent years, globalization has reached its height. In fact, it seems like the world is getting smaller and smaller every day. As such, it is no longer uncommon to encounter situations where you must deal with people who speak or write a different language than you. There are actually numerous reasons why learning a second or even a third language can be very beneficial from a professional or personal standpoint. No matter how old or young you are, there are several reasons why learning a second or third language can greatly improve your life.

One of the most important reasons for the learning a second language is that many professions actually require it. Even jobs that do not require applicants to speak a second language will often give preference to those who do. Although English is one of the main international languages, many jobs require that you speak another common international language or one of the major languages spoken in business such as Chinese or Japanese. In the United States, more and more employers are requiring that employees are able to speak Spanish. This is especially true of occupations where the employee frequently has to interact with customers either on the phone or in person. Knowing a second language can also be a major social bonus. Not only can this be beneficial when traveling for pleasure, but speaking an additional language can allow one to develop relationships with people in other parts of the world. Interacting with people in their native tongue can be a fun and interesting experience, and it is sure to create a good impression of you.

Even if you do not plan on going to business meetings or traveling around the world, learning another language can be very rewarding. For many people, this accomplishment can lead to a great sense of personal satisfaction. The project can be very challenging, but in the end, you will have a new skill that sets you apart from many other people. It has also been proven that learning a new language stimulates the brain in a way that allows you to easily learn and understand other subjects. This sort of brain training is an ideal way of keeping your mind sharp and healthy, which can be very beneficial for people of all ages.
